Full-time status is determined by UBC for funding purposes as 12 credits of courses (6 per term) in the fall/winter term.Incoming MFA students may be awarded scholarships at the discretion of the Creative Writing Program.New Shoots is funded by Art Starts, Vancouver School Board (VSB), and the Creative Writing Program at UBC.
Each mentor is paid an honorarium to create a tailored lesson plan and teach eight sessions of creative writing workshops to a class or after-school club.
Every June, an annual New Shoots anthology of selected student work is launched with readings by students, mentors, and local authors.
