I actually got to enjoy the movie instead of trying to examine every scene like I usually have to do in other classes when we watch a movie.
John Nash was an amazing man and he had a huge positive impact on the American public. I have learned a good deal about mental illness after watching this movie.
When I think of someone with a mental illness I usually think of some guy in a mental institution in a straight jacket.
This movie showed me that mentally ill people can lead very productive and happy lives.
Some people even think it is cool to make fun of people that are suffering from mental illnesses.
This movie showed them that it is a very serious matter and it isn't something to joke about.A Beautiful Mind is an inspiring story about triumph over schizophrenia, among the most devastating and disabling of all mental disorders. Advertisements accurately tout the movie as an intensely human drama "revolving around the grand themes of great triumph over intense adversity and the power of unwavering love." Based on the book of the same name by Sylvia Nasar, the movie has been praised by mental health advocates as bringing to life the struggles faced by sufferers of schizophrenia and their families.Yet, Nash’s experience is not generalized among the population with this disorder."A Beautiful Mind" is based on a true story on the life of John Nash. John Nash was a very peculiar man with a brilliant mind. One of the first imaginary characters that Nash develops in his mind is his roommate Charles Herman, (Paul Bettany) a student of English Literature. It refers not to a multiple personality split but rather to a split from reality that shows itself in disorganized thinking, disturbed perceptions, and inappropriate emotions and actions” (Myers, 2007, p678). Patients with schizophrenia have either positive or negative symptoms.Nash experienced severe delusions and hallucinations which were then diagnosed as symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia. The positive symptoms are hallucinations, speech disorganized, delusions, inappropriate laughter, and tears.I learned that sometimes when you are so intelligent, you have so much going on in your brain that you can't deal with it all and are in a way mentally ill. This is a little bit of the information I have learned while watching this movie.” characterizes the story of the brilliant mathematician John Forbes Nash who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. This film was directed by Ron Howard and it's based on a true life story of the genius mathematician Nash which is portrayed by the actor Russel Crowe.
